Giants’ Joe Judge has ‘a lot of respect’ for Andy Reid

Joe Judge was still in high school when Andy Reid arrived in Philadelphia to coach his beloved Eagles.

More than two decades later, they will meet as opposing head coaches for the first time, when the Giants visit the Chiefs on Monday night.

“I had a lot of respect for him, I really did. I remember when he came in and thought he did a really, really good job right away of getting his team moving in a certain direction,” Judge recalled on Saturday. “He’s one of the few coaches [that] I actually watched his postgame pressers.”

Reid coached the Eagles from 1999-2012, leading them to six NFC East titles and one Super Bowl appearance. He got his first title with the Chiefs and has led them to five straight AFC West crowns. The job he did with the Eagles, though, left an impression on Judge, who grew up in Doylestown, Pa., north of Philadelphia.

Judge followed closely when Reid was with the Eagles and became impressed by how he handled his press conferences, not only with what he said, but how he got his point across. One summer, Judge got to spend time around the Eagles and watch them practice. On Monday night, he gets to face Reid.

“There were different exposures I had with him, things that he probably wouldn’t remember, but a ton of respect for him, absolutely,” Judge said.
