Asics Corp. names new president and CEO and new chief operating officer

Global sports and lifestyle brand Asics Corporation has unveiled a series of leadership changes, including the appointment of Mitsuyuki Tominaga as the new president and chief operating officer (COO), effective January 1, 2024.

Tominaga brings a wealth of experience to his new role, including positions in the New York office of Andersen Consulting, IBM Japan, director of corporate strategy at IBM Corporation, vice president and CEO of IBM Japan, and vice president and head of services at SAP Japan .

He also served as President and Representative Director of Works Applications America before joining Asics Corporation in 2018 as CEO and Senior General Manager of the IT Division.

The leadership shakeup also includes the re-election of Motoi Oyama. Oyama, who currently serves as president and director, will assume the role of senior advisor and director. He is then scheduled to retire on March 22, 2024.

Other key leadership changes include Yasuhito Hirota, who currently serves as president, chief executive officer and chief operating officer, who will transition to the role of president and chief executive officer, representative director.

“These appointments aim to establish a new management team that can further develop Asics in the face of drastic changes in the business environment so that it can achieve its goal of ensuring a world in which each and every one of us can exercise and practicing sports throughout our lives and continuing to live in good health, both mentally and physically,” said Hirota.

“Since 2018, Mitsuyuki Tominaga has played a key role, especially in promoting the digitalization of Asics. He is truly confident that as the new President and COO, he will contribute to increasing the corporate value of the Asics Group.”

Tominaga, the newly appointed president and chief operating officer, added: “As President Hirota’s successor, I will do my best to offer a wider range of customers the fruit of ASICS’ passionate long-term commitment to the development and creation of products.
