Brother of Steelers star Stephon Tuitt killed in Georgia hit-and-run

The brother of Pittsburgh Steelers star Stephon Tuitt was killed in a Georgia hit-and-run accident this week.

Richard Bartlett III, 23, was struck on a busy stretch of McGinnis Ferry Road in Johns Creek, an Atlanta suburb, just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Capt. Todd Hood of the local police department told WGCL-TV.

“The victim was following a girlfriend in a vehicle,” Hood told the outlet. “She had a mattress strapped to the top of her car. From what we understand, they may have stopped to secure it. She had pulled over to the right-hand side of the roadway. The victim had pulled into the left-hand turn lane right there at the boat entrance to the Chattahoochee River.”

As he stood in the roadway, he was hit by an oncoming car, according to Hood.

“We do know that the vehicle turned around in the intersection right there possibly to see what had happened or what they had hit and at that point they fled the scene,” the police official said.

The vehicle was a dark four-door sedan, possibly a BMW, according to authorities.

The distraught family returned to the scene, but wasn’t ready to talk, the local outlet reported.

Bartlett’s brother is Steelers defensive end Stephon Tuitt, 28.

Their mother, Tamara Tuitt-Bartlett, is a deputy with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, according to the report.

The NFL player bought a townhouse for his mother in Johns Creek back in 2017, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported at the time.

When the boys were young, their mother moved them from Florida to Lawrenceville, Ga., according to the report. She had always rented a place for the family to live because she wanted to be in a nice neighborhood, the player said at the time.
