Column: What Lollapalooza 2021 could look like in Chicago

On Thursday, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced that the city is loosening its current COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, allowing for increased capacity for indoor events. It also allows outdoor festivals and farmer’s markets to expand, with festivals, in particular, allowed to operate with 15 people per 1,000 square feet. The city’s first street festival will be the Windy City Smokeout, scheduled to take place July 8-11. Full vaccination is required for all vendors, performers and staff, while non-vaccinated attendees would be required to present proof of a negative COVID PCR test taken within three days of entry to the event.
