Fort Dodge police are investigating a dog attack that sent a woman to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines by air ambulance with serious injuries. The attack occurred around 11:30 a.m. Friday near the intersection of South 16th Street and 8th Avenue South. Fort Dodge police say an officer was sent to the scene after reports of screaming in the area, where they found three dogs attacking the woman. After trying unsuccessfully to scare away the animals, the officer shot the three dogs several times, killing them. “I had heard the shots. I originally came out and saw the police with their gun drawn. He had told me to come in and I did, I went in, but after a couple of moments, my curiosity was piqued. Go ahead and get out here. I came out driveway just to take a look, I saw a black dog lying on the ground, deceased, which is very sad,” said neighbor Kerri Johnson. “I don’t know what happened to the lady, but I know they took someone out on a stretcher.” Another neighbor told KCCI that the dogs belonged to them and he was visibly upset, with tears streaming down his face. The woman’s name has not been released. Police say they are trying to find out what led to the dog attack. If you have any information about this incident, call police or contact Crime Stoppers at 515-573-1444.
