Germany travel was canceled, but $22,000 travel refund hasn’t come

In 1633, ravaged by the Thirty Years’ War and the bubonic plague, the leaders of the small town of Oberammergau, Germany, made a promise to God.

If God would put a stop to their suffering, every 10 years they would put on a play commemorating the life and death of Jesus Christ. As legend has it, from that point forward, not a single villager died from the plague even though many showed signs of the disease.

Every 10 years since 1634, Oberammergau has staged its Passion Play, drawing thousands of visitors and performers from around the world. Goodyear, Arizona, residents Brad Russell and partner Peggy Speight planned to make the trip in September 2020.

But another pandemic – COVID-19 – and the postponement of the play until 2022 ruined their plans. Now they’re wondering if they’ll ever see a refund of the $22,165 they spent on what was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Europe.
