The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating after deputies shot a woman in Rancho Cordova on Monday. It all started on Augibi Way when the sheriff’s office said a person called saying someone was trying to break into her house with a butcher knife. Officers with the Rancho Cordova Police Department saw the person suspected of breaking and entering parked in a driveway along Malaga Way and La Loma Drive, about a mile away from Augibi Way. Shortly after, the sheriff’s office said two deputies fired their weapons at the woman. but it has not yet been clarified whether she was actually beaten. The woman then drove off, leading to a brief chase, the sheriff’s office said. The chase ended in front of the Sacramento Regional Transit light rail station next to Folsom Boulevard and Mather Field. Deputies said the woman eventually surrendered. A security guard who witnessed the end of the chase told KCRA 3 that several officers surrounded the car with guns drawn. When the woman got out of her car, the guard said he noticed a cut and bleeding on the woman’s arm. The sheriff’s office also recognized the woman’s wound, but deputies are not sure if the wound was caused by gunshots, shrapnel or her knife. The woman is in the hospital and is expected to survive her injury. She will be booked into the Sacramento County Jail once she is discharged. Investigators believe the woman may live in the neighborhood and that the home she tried to break into could have been her neighbor’s. No details were released about what led up to the shooting. What appeared to be at least two bullet holes could be seen in a Dodge Ram. No officers were injured, the sheriff’s office said. Both officers who fired their weapons will be on administrative leave, which is protocol any time an officer is part of a shooting. Eastbound traffic on Folsom Boulevard near Mather Field Road was closed due to the investigation, but has since reopened.
