Prince Harry, 39, appeared to cast a shadow over the royal family on Saturday over his decision not to allow him to wear his military uniform during last year’s funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the May coronation of King Charles III.
The embattled prince made the comments during the closing ceremony of the sixth annual Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany, Deadline reports.
“I was here a week ago and talked to you about the importance of being able to fly your nation’s flag again,” the Duke of Sussex said. “Many of you have told me that it hit you right here. For many of you, the uniform you have been wearing for the past week will give you a new story to tell.”
“And for others, it can give new meaning to their old uniform,” the estranged royal continued. “But I’m here to remind you that after all this, you don’t need to rely on a uniform nor feel lost without one. Because everything you need is already within you.”
Founded in 2014 by Harry, the Invictus Games serve as an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured and ill soldiers and veterans.
The Post has contacted the Duke of Sussex for comment.
A representative told The Post on Sunday: “Watch the speech and you will see that there is no truth to this. His words were referring to the competitors, to no one else. “This is nothing more than clickbait speculation.”
Several UK media outlets appear to have taken his words as a dig at the British monarchy, which banned Harry from wearing his military uniform during the queen’s funeral in September 2022.
According to Buckingham Palace, Harry was banned from wearing his Blues and Royals No. 1 dress uniform because he was no longer a senior member of the family and had been stripped of his titles in 2020 when he and his wife Meghan Markle, of 42 years old, they moved to California.
Harry’s alleged jab comes a day after he celebrated his 39th birthday on Friday with Markle.
Footage obtained by The Post shows the pair passing a clear pint back and forth while watching a final volleyball match at the Games.
The birthday boy was caught cheering enthusiastically during the game, so much so that the former “Suits” actress covered her face while her husband celebrated.
They also stopped by the Schumacher brewery, where they drank beer and ate sausage schnitzel, pork knuckle, sausages and mashed potatoes.
They even took some photos with some fans and restaurant employees.
Meanwhile, body language expert Judi James told The Mirror that Harry seemed “shy” as he celebrated his birthday.
She argued that her smile was more “discreet” compared to previous tournaments, as she “didn’t show her teeth” at her party. She suggested that Harry was an “uncomplicated birthday boy, please.”
