This is the time of year when Samsung unintentionally leaks important details about its flagship Galaxy S line of phones months before their launch. So it won’t come as a surprise that we now have details on the S24 and S24 Ultra, or at least the phones we assume will carry that name.
Today, Windows report Got new official images from Samsung including the Galaxy S24 Ultra with a new flattened screen design. Confirms a previous leak from Twitter/X user David Martin, who published hand images of the supposed new S24 Ultra. The images clearly showed sharper screen borders, similar to the changes made to the regular S23 from earlier this year, instead of the smooth curve, and a new gray finish.
As reported last month, Samsung is expected to launch new generative AI software on its upcoming phones that use the company’s Gauss model. Today’s leaks claim that S24 devices will use the technology to translate messaging apps in real time and in more than a dozen languages. In October, Samsung also demonstrated a new AI-powered “Zoom Anyplace” camera framing feature powered by a Qualcomm AI engine, which is expected to launch on a future device.
Also today, Android Authority discovered that the FCC recently released important processor and modem specification details for the S24 line. While the commission did not explicitly state the chip, the information shows that the S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra have Qualcomm modems with Smart Transit functionality. The combination suggests that all S24 models, at least in the US, will be equipped with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips with on-device AI capabilities. However, there is still a chance that international versions of the standard S24 will end up with Samsung’s Exynos processors and modems, as in previous years.
Along with the flatter screen and faster processor, the S24 Ultra also has a titanium frame, an improved 50MP 5x telephoto camera, better vapor chamber cooling, and Wi-Fi 7 (which you probably don’t need). The rest of the specifications leaked by Windows report Show that the new phone is not much different from the previous S23 Ultra model. It looks like the S24 Ultra will still have a 6.8-inch Quad-HD display, 120Hz refresh rate, similar storage options, 12GB of RAM, and a 5,000mAh battery.
Meanwhile, the designs of the standard Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus models resemble their S23 counterparts, as previously confirmed in a September leak. But they do get new color finishes in Onyx Black, Marble Grey, Cobalt Violet and Amber Yellow. Notably, this time the new Ultra also has color options that match the regular S24 phones. The above details correlate with new leaks that point to a larger 6.7-inch Quad-HD display, a larger 4,900mAh battery, and more 12GB RAM for the S24 Plus. The regular S24, however, will get very small improvements to the 6.2-inch screen size and 4,000 mAh battery.
Samsung has not officially announced a successor to its Galaxy S23 line of smartphones that launched earlier this year. As for the leaks themselves (and if the story is true), we should expect to see these phones announced early next year at a Samsung Unpacked event.
