Suddenly I’m 12 years old again.
A new trailer for the long-awaited Percy Jackson series is everything fans have been waiting for.
With quotes and scenes taken directly from the book (and also a cast that’s actually age-appropriate), it’s clear that this show is nothing like the infamous 2010 movie (sorry, Logan Lerman!). The trailer begins with an incredibly precise needle drop: an avant-garde version of Vance Joy’s “Riptide.” (Percy’s trusty sword that he carries throughout the entire book series is called Riptide.) Then, there are the bright orange T-shirts of Camp Half-Blood, the cozy camp cabins, and snippets of Percy’s cross-country quest that bring the book’s pages to life.
The show will follow the events of the first book, The Lightning Thief, where Percy discovers that not only is he a half-blood, but also son of Poseidon, one of the three great Greek gods. Together with Annabeth, daughter of Athena, and Grover, a satyr, he must travel across the country to recover Zeus’s stolen lightning bolt.
The cast includes The Adam projectWalker Scobell as Percy, with Empireby Leah Sava Jeffries and Spin’Aryan Simhadri as Annabeth and Grover, respectively. The adult cast includes Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes, Toby Stephens as Poseidon and the late Lance Reddick as Zeus. Unlike the movie situation, Riordan has been heavily involved since the beginning of this project.
The first two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians It arrived on Disney Plus on December 20 and new episodes will air weekly.
